Start a lively dinnertime discussion with BOXHILL's Blue Jade Dwarf Sweet Corn Organic Seeds! Otherwise known as Zea Mays, this tasty heirloom sweet corn is always a crowd-pleaser. A delicious expression of the ancient relationship between humans and corn, this variety is free from the trappings of modern agriculture. Showing off the diversity of open-pollinated seeds with its striking, steel blue kernals, we think the flavor of this varietal is what will really win you over -- this corn is best sweet corns we've ever tasted!
Seeds arrive in a quatrefoiled, folded package -- both the quatrefoil shape and seeds, themselves, were thought to be travel partners on the ancient Silk Road. Blue Jade's kernels turn from white to steel blue when it's at the peak eating stage, and they will transition to a slightly greener when cooked. The plants are small with multiple stalks that produce two to three ears per plant. Due to the dwarfed plant size, the ears will be approximately half the size of a standard ear of sweet corn -- a great variety for small spaces and container gardens!
Direct sow these seeds after the threat of frost has passed. Plant corn in blocks, with at least four rows per block, to ensure proper pollination for kernel formation. This varietal requires fertile soil and little attention. Harvest when the ears are full, and kernels are swollen with a light blue color, being careful to ensure that the ears do not over-ripen. To grow Blue Jade in large containers, sow clusters of 3 seeds that are spaced 12" apart.
