Special Considerations
District Collection's Concrete is a fiber-reinforced material comprised of granite stone powder, cement, natural jute fibers and water. Although not considered a defect, non-structural hairline cracks are possible as a result of shrinkage and the natural curing process. By ordering products from this collection, you accept the natural characteristics unique to each item and agree that no claims will be approved regarding these natural variations. Concrete should be coated with Paraffin wax on a regular basis to ensure finish is protected over time. Although suitable for outdoor use this item should not be left outside in extreme weather such as freezing temperatures, snow and ice.
Care & Maintenance
It is recommended to reapply the wax seal periodically to keep the surface protected against stains. Wax once within 2 months of installation of the product and every 3 to 6 months thereafter, depending on the use and location. If the product is placed outside, wax it well before Winter, ensuring that it is covered and raised off the ground. Outdoor items should not be left outside in extreme weather such as freezing temperatures, snow and ice. The recommended product is any commercially available stone floor wax with a paraffin base.
Avoiding Stains
Regular use will not stain the concrete as the sealer and wax serve as active barriers. In the event that the coating is knowingly cut, scraped, or damaged, new wax should be reapplied. Spills should be wiped up as soon as possible. While the wax performs well against oil stains and acidic materials, prolonged exposure may cause penetration of the sealer and possible discoloration. Avoid contact with acidic substances, such as citrus or olive oil, which can damage the wax, resulting in less stain resistance. Oils in particular can penetrate the surface when forced in from the weight of a glass. Although not considered a defect, non-structural hairline cracks are possible and may result from shrinkage and the natural curing process. If hairline cracks do appear, immediately apply a thick coat of wax and rub in well to prevent moisture from seeping into the cracks and causing discoloration.
Cleaning
Clean the concrete surface using mild soap and water. Do not use cleaning products that contain acetone or denatured alcohol. Do not use harsh abrasives, bleach-based or ammoniated cleansers. Avoid using natural cleansers, which are often citrus based, as the cleaning agent is typically highly acidic and can damage natural materials.
