PROJECT: Trixie Motel
INTERIOR DESIGNER: Dani Dazey
When longtime BOXHILL collaborator Dani Dazey was chosen from hundreds of designers to lead the aesthetic of the iconic Trixie Motel—the colorful brainchild of drag queen Trixie Mattel, and the subject of a buzzy Discovery+ streamer—she turned to us with a very specific request.
“The pool was our problem child all season and all renovation,” said Dani. Lots of back and forth about what to do and how to make it feel colorful and unique.” When Palm Springs city codes prevented her from painting the pool’s lining pink, she opted instead for the repeated motif of pink rays throughout the deck.
Shade Fit for a Queen
As a landscape designer with decades of experience softening the harsh desert climate for outdoor enjoyment, Elizabeth knew that the most critical ingredient for a successful pool area would be shade. And of course, nobody throws shade like a drag queen—so our solution would have to be as fabulous as Trixie herself.
The Crowning Glory
The maximalist aesthetic of the pool area—defined by Dani’s kitschy pink-and-white striped deck—was already echoed in micro with pool edging, lounger pillows and matching towels, all in a very specific custom shade of bubblegum pink.
The crowning glory, our custom pool umbrellas, featured alternating panels of white and Trixie’s signature pink finished with fringe. Crafted from durable marine-grade fabric, these shady ladies are backed by a 10-year warranty.
"The aerial shots of this new pool deck give me life!"

Collaboration in Living Color
When Dani and her then-boyfriend (now husband) purchased an iconic midcentury property in Palm Springs, she relied on BOXHILL’s expertise to extend her vibrant interior vibes into the backyard. It was one of our most colorful projects to date—and ultimately led to the fun Trixie challenge.
It’s precisely this kind of collaboration that makes our Trade Program our favorite way to keep growing and evolving as designers! We love getting the opportunity to work with professionals spanning virtually every point on the aesthetic spectrum. Wondering what hues we can co-create together?
