Italian Terracotta Bee Pot

Italian Terracotta Bee Pot

Combining the highest standards of American style and European quality, BOXHILL's Italian Terracotta (Bee Pot) is modern masterpiece! Designed by landscaper designer, horticulturalist, and gardener Richard Hartlage, this charming piece depicts honey bees buzzing around its narrow, honeycomb base.

This pottery is hand-selected from the most sought-after workshops in Impruneta (a commune in the Florence province of Italy). Produced by the best workshops who only employ master artisans, the level of quality is unparalleled. Each workshop is one that both produces and sells terracotta inside the Impruneta zone. (Lesser workshops produce their pottery outside of the area, yet maintain an Impruneta showroom for the address.) Our terracotta is heirloom quality, and it will increase in value over time. The classic designs are timeless, and they will work with every style of architecture. Each handmade piece is traceable to its master artisan, as it is hand-signed and dated.

Terracotta Pots

These beautiful terracotta pots are frost-proof down to -20*F. We recommend that you lift the pots off of the ground (via pot feet, wedges, or wooden blocks) so there is at least an inch between the drainage hole and the ground for colder weather. Leave soil in the pots during the winter months, and avoid using saucers to keep the drainage holes clear.

Known throughout the industry as the "Rolls Royce of Pottery," this pottery is a sound investment for any garden or landscape. Transcending quality and style to a landscape, they bring vitality to the plants they house. Seen in prestigious locations such as the New York Botanical Garden, and the Biltmore Estate, this is the best Italian pottery for discerning designers and gardeners.

Care + Maintenance

Terra Cotta Care

Ensure drainage holes remain clear so water can drain freely. For best results, place a filter screen over the drainage holes and add 2–3 inches of crushed stone before adding potting soil.

During winter, keep outdoor planters elevated at least one inch above the ground using pot feet or wedges to allow proper drainage. Outdoor use of saucers during winter is not recommended.

Over time, natural white markings called efflorescence may appear on the terra cotta surface. This is caused by naturally occurring salts in the clay and does not harm the planter or plants. It will often fade naturally or can be gently cleaned using a 10:1 water-to-white-vinegar solution and a soft cloth.
