Desert Dazey Palm Springs House

Boxhill partnered with the Trixie Motel designer and style icon Dani Dazey at her midcentury modern Palm Springs house to transform the too-sunny desert backyard into a space of vibrant, usable vignettes including dining, fire pit, shaded cabana, and more!

Summer Shade

Elizabeth created an outdoor flex space with a shade structure, furnishing the new outdoor room with a comfy outdoor sofa and colorful outdoor pillows in the home's signature hot-orange hue.

For the outdoor dining area, Elizabeth chose a sleek teak dining table and chairs in a mixed palette of cool tones to complement the warm wood—all on a custom-painted concrete disk that she and Dani painted together.

Winter Chill

To warm the winter nights, Elizabeth chose the Royal Firepit in tangerine surrounded by matching Acapulco patio chairs. “Those chairs are crazy comfy and such a statement—which is a lot, coming from me!” Said Dani.

A pair of sleek white sun loungers give residents and guests a place to soak up the desert sun, complimented by weather-resistant outdoor pillows in vibrant hues.

Vintage Accents

Incorporating authentic vintage pieces – like this stunning white wicker set – gives the outdoor space an irresistible depth of character and charm.

Get Inspired

Designing Desert Dazey Palm Springs House – To the homeowner, designer and style icon Dani Dazey, this outdoor space felt overwhelming, full of dead space, and "basically unusable" for much of the year due to extreme sun and wind in the summer and cold during winter nights. Elizabeth started by defining a series of vignettes throughout the space to break up the great expanse and make it more functional. She solved the sun problem by creating a flex space with a shade structure and comfy outdoor lounge furniture – effectively increasing the feel of square footage on the property. She addressed the winter cold by creating a fire pit area featuring a stunning midcentury modern inspire fire place in Dazey's signature orange color. Adding dining area completed the space.

Client Vibe and Color Palette: A Colorful Palm Springs Retreat – Dani Dazey is know for her maximialist style and love of color. This backyard design was no exception. They leaned heavily on the Desert Dazey House signature orange color in furniture and created hand-painted murals on the concrete for an additional pop.

Key Design Elements – Color, geometric shapes, and midcentury modern-inspired new furniture balanced with real vintage pieces and original artwork.
