The Moderondak Club Chair is built using durable outdoor materials chosen for their ability to perform well in changing weather conditions. The seating surfaces are available in HDPE and phenolic finishes, each offering long-term durability with minimal maintenance.

HDPE, or High-Density Polyethylene, is made from recycled plastic that is compressed into dense panels. The material holds its color throughout and resists moisture, corrosion, and UV exposure. Unlike traditional wood furniture, HDPE does not absorb water and does not require sealing, staining, or refinishing. It also resists cracking, rusting, and splintering, making it a practical choice for outdoor environments, including poolside or coastal locations.

Phenolic finishes offer a wood-inspired appearance with added stability. Phenolic is produced by layering FSC-certified kraft paper infused with phenolic resin and compressing it under high pressure between protective laminate layers. The result is a dense surface that resists moisture, warping, and structural fatigue while maintaining a consistent finish.

The chair’s low profile encourages a relaxed seating position, while the broad armrests provide a convenient place to rest a drink or small tray. Materials

HDPE Finishes

Our HDPE Finishes are made from recycled high-density polyethylene, a durable material designed for long-term outdoor use. The recycled plastic is formed into dense panels that are structurally stable, impact-resistant, and color consistent throughout.

HDPE is waterproof, UV-resistant, and resistant to rot, corrosion, and moisture. It will not crack, splinter, or require sealing or painting, even in harsh climates. At the end of its lifecycle, it can be recycled again, supporting a circular material system.

Available in six colors: white, black, charcoal, slate, indigo, and basil.

Phenolic Finishes

Our Phenolic Finishes are made from architectural-grade phenolic, originally developed for exterior cladding and façade applications. It is constructed from FSC-certified kraft paper saturated in phenolic resin and compressed under high pressure with exterior-grade laminate layers.

The result is a material with exceptional strength, rigidity, and dimensional stability. Phenolic resists warping, cracking, splintering, and delamination while maintaining its appearance without refinishing or treatments.

Available in three wood finishes: natural oak, madison walnut, and loft ash.

Care Instructions

Simply wipe down with soapy water and washcloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or anything abrasive, such as a scouring pad, as that may dull the material. All pieces are scratch resistant, waterproof and will never need to be refinished or painted.
